Frequently asked questions
The questions people type before they download. Short answer first, then the detail.
Do I have to pay a subscription, or does it work on my PC?
It works on your PC and the desktop app is free. There is no subscription for the desktop app and no account is needed.
The paid part is cloud sync, which puts the same board in a browser and on your phone. It is a paid plan, Basic, Pro or Max, after a free 30-day trial of Max with no card. Your AI provider bills you separately for the model calls made on your own API key, and a model on your own hardware costs nothing per run. Pricing.
Can I run tasks unattended and watch from my phone or a browser?
Yes. Drag cards to To Do and the desktop works through them one at a time. With cloud sync on, the board is in any browser and on your phone, live.
From the phone you can read everything, create and move tasks, answer the agent's questions, and, while your desktop is online, start containers, open a terminal, run scripts and hold a planning chat. Notifications and their read state sync to the phone. What works where.
Does it run on my machine or in the cloud?
On your machine. The agent, the containers and the terminal all run on your desktop.
The cloud stores a synced copy of the board so your phone can read it, and relays your phone's requests to your desktop. It runs no code of yours and stores no key it can read. With cloud sync off, which is the default, the app itself sends your work nowhere but the AI provider you chose and your git remote. It also checks for updates, downloads the dictation model once, downloads Docker and gVisor when you ask it to set them up, pulls a base image when a project container is built, reads a provider's public status page after a failed run, and sends a diagnostics report only when you press Report a problem. The agent's own commands have the container's network, so what they send is up to the task. Security.
Is it a Kanban board?
Yes. Planning, To Do, In Progress, Done, Blocked, Canceled. Cards are tasks written in plain language.
There is no node graph and no workflow language. Ordering is a mention on the card. Scheduled work is a flow described in plain language. Features.
Do I need Docker?
Yes. The app installs it for you where it can.
On Linux one administrator prompt installs Docker, gVisor and the access you need, with no restart or log-out. On a Mac or Windows the app downloads the official Docker Desktop installer, verifies it and opens it. What the app sets up for you.
Which AI providers work?
Claude, OpenAI, Gemini and Grok on your own API key. Ollama, vLLM, llama.cpp and LM Studio on your own hardware.
Each project picks a default and any task can override it. Every run records its cost. Providers and cost, Using a local AI model.
How is the web board secured?
Email and password with hashed passwords, two-factor authentication with an authenticator app, sessions that last 30 days and renew while you use them, and one linked desktop per account.
Your credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM under your account's data key, which your password unlocks and the cloud never stores. Board content is stored readable on the cloud so your phone can read it, and is protected by disk encryption, encrypted backups and TLS. The full account.
What is the sign-in button for?
Cloud sync, the browser board and the phone board. Nothing else.
An account is not a licence and does not gate updates. The desktop app works without one. What the account is for.
What does the cloud store, and what can it read?
It stores your synced board. It can read task text, comments, chat, notes and run output, because your phone needs them with your desktop off. It never stores your API keys, environment variables or git keys in a form it can read. They are encrypted under your account's data key, which is wrapped under your password, so a copy of the cloud database reveals a blob.
The cloud sees that key only in memory, at sign-in, when the password is set, changed or reset, and when a new recovery code is issued, and it hands the key only to your linked desktop. A secret typed in a browser passes through the cloud once on its way to the desktop. If your work must never reach the cloud, leave cloud sync off. Security.
Does it run on a Mac?
Yes. Apple silicon and Intel disk images are on the download page. Linux and Windows too.
Which platforms have been run by a person and which have only been built: OS support.
I do not want to run scripts or touch a terminal. Is it all in the app?
Yes. Keys are pasted into a settings tab, tasks are cards, containers are buttons, and the Docker install is a button.
A terminal is there when you want one, from the app, a browser or your phone, and never required for setup.
Can my team share a board?
No. Boards are one person's, by design.
A business account shares credentials between members, sealed so no single party can read them alone, without sharing boards.
Is it open source?
No. The desktop app is free and proprietary. The website sets no cookies and loads no trackers, and the app sends diagnostics only when you press Report a problem.
How does it compare to n8n, Jan, Open WebUI, Hermes Agent Kanban and the others?
